Sri Lanka discovery

All last weekend I took a walk from my hotel room to a area called the Dutch Hospital

The walk was about 2.5 Km and was along the beach.  All of Colombo is a beach.  The last 1 Km is a park and public beach the is more busy at night than by day. https://lanka.com/about/attractions/galle-face-green/
When I walked by at 9 am there was not any activity on the beach.  It appears this is a place to go at night to cool off.

Pass the park a nice Sri Lankan man approached me and offered to take me to a Buddist Temple and a Hindu Shrine.  He found a turk turk and off we went.  Now, this is the first scam that a tourist can encounter.  I was an easy target looking like a tourist with a fancy camera around my neck.  The long story was as we drove to our destination we stopped to take quick photos of the local train station.  The trains are very old and I think Sri Lankan believe that if it is not broken use it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gangaramaya_Templ

The Temple is part Temple, part museum and part Buddist orphanage/school for the children left without parents who died in the tsunami. 2004. https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/news/2004/12/mil-041228-srilanka-gid01.htm  10,100 people died that day.
From the Temple, we went to a Hindu Shrine.

This is an interesting website to visit regarding Sri Lanka and its various religions.  https://lanka.com/about/attractions/hindu-sites/#  go to Sri Lanka drop-down menu and attractions.

My guide wanted to take me to more places but I was getting worried that the tuk tuk was going to cost a lot.  I requested to go back to the Dutch Hospital are which is not several nice restaurants and gift stores.  The cost for three hours of the tuk tuk was 1800 Sri Lankan rubies or about $9 and I gave the guide 300 rubies or about $1.66.
I could have taken a guided tour for $30.

I will post all of the photos take to my Flickr site https://www.flickr.com/search/?q=douglascarlseaman
